Landscapes & Open Horizons
A horseback ride across open pasture brings a different sense of scale to the landscape. In Hulunbuir, low hills roll toward a wide horizon, sheep and cattle graze across the meadows, and the Morigele River bends repeatedly through the grass. From a hilltop viewpoint, there is time to watch clouds cast moving shadows over the land.
Elsewhere, grasslands take on different forms. At Nalati, mountain meadows meet dark spruce forests, while rivers wind through Bayanbulak’s broad basin and wetlands. Ulan Butong combines rolling pasture with birch woods, especially colorful in autumn. Farther west, the Qilian Mountains frame highland grazing land, and Ganjia’s pale cliffs rise sharply above open grasslands.

Culture & Exploration
These landscapes are also places where people live and work. Mongolian pastoral traditions shape parts of Hulunbuir, while Nalati is closely associated with Kazakh herding communities. Around Ganjia, Tibetan villages and monasteries stand amid grazing land. A locally hosted meal or guided visit can offer a closer look at the foods, customs and daily work connected with each region.
There are several ways to explore, from guided horse rides to walks along established visitor paths. Summer brings green pastures and wildflowers to many areas, while autumn introduces golden grasses and changing woodland colors. The timing varies with altitude and weather. Leave time for unhurried stops, and keep to permitted routes through pastures and wetlands.
