Ice & Snow Landscapes

As evening falls at Harbin Ice and Snow World, towers and buildings carved from ice glow against the dark sky. Colored lights bring out translucent walls and reflections, while visitors move between sculptures and ice slides. Seeing the park in both daylight and darkness reveals different details, from the texture of individual ice blocks to the illuminated outlines of entire structures.

Snow brings a different atmosphere to the villages. In China Snow Town, rounded layers of snow settle over roofs and fences, with red lanterns adding warmth to the streets. Farther west, Hemu’s timber houses sit among snowy hills and forests. From a viewpoint above the village, the roofs, paths and surrounding woodland form a wider winter panorama.

Nature & Winter Traditions

At Changbai Mountain, snow transforms forests and mountain slopes, with scenery changing between elevations. Arxan National Forest Park offers another kind of winter landscape, where stretches of river remain unfrozen amid the snow. Mist can drift above the flowing water, softening the outlines of trees and creating changing views along the banks.

Winter also shapes local traditions. At Chagan Lake, fishing teams work through openings in the ice and haul in large nets during the winter fishing season. The surrounding festivities and fish dishes connect the spectacle with local livelihoods and food culture. Plan visits around announced fishing events, and leave time to enjoy the seasonal atmosphere along the lakeshore.
